01 General Information

The Journal of Semiconductor Technology and Science (JSTS) is published bimonthly and covers all areas of semiconductor technology and science, including fabrication processes, devices, circuits, and MEMS.

Research papers submitted to JSTS must be original and must not duplicate descriptions or derivations published elsewhere. Because JSTS serves a broad readership, authors are strongly advised to avoid unexplained acronyms and specialized jargon.

Every manuscript submitted to JSTS is evaluated by the Editorial Board and judged on its originality, novelty, and technological value.

02 Publication Types

JSTS accepts the following types of manuscripts. Authors should select the appropriate type when submitting through the JSTS ScholarOne Manuscripts site.

• Regular Paper: A full-length original research paper of more than three journal pages.
• Letter: A concise report of original research of up to three journal pages.
• Special Issue Paper: A paper submitted to a special issue in response to its call for papers.
• Editorial: An editorial article on a topic of interest to the JSTS readership.
• Comments and Corrections: A comment on a paper previously published in JSTS, or a correction to a published paper.

Accepted papers are normally published within three to six months of submission.

03 Manuscript Preparation

All manuscripts must be written in English and prepared using the JSTS manuscript template (Word or LaTeX), following the structure of the template. Figures, tables, and their captions should be placed within the text. Each manuscript should include five index terms.

After acceptance, the manuscript will be converted into the final JSTS journal format by the Editorial Office, and the formatted version (Word and PDF) will be sent to the authors for galley proofing.

05 Manuscript Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted through the JSTS ScholarOne Manuscripts site. Through this site, authors can submit their papers, track the status of the review, and check the acceptance decision and publication schedule. Authors are required to create a ScholarOne user account before submitting a manuscript.

• Submission Format: Manuscripts must follow the JSTS manuscript template and maintain its structure.
• File Format: Manuscripts may be submitted in Word or LaTeX format.
• ORCID Requirement: All authors must register for an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and link it to their ScholarOne account.

Articles published in JSTS are available free of charge in both print and electronic form at https://jsts.org. This policy follows the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/), which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.

07 Paper Permanence

The paper used for the print edition of JSTS meets the requirements of KS X ISO 9706, ISO 9706-1994, and ANSI/NISO Z39.48-1992 (Permanence of Paper).

08 Ethics and Responsibilities of Authors

All submitted manuscripts must be original and must not be under consideration for publication in any other journal at the same time. No part of an accepted manuscript may be published in any other journal without the permission of the Editorial Board. For further details, please refer to the JSTS Manuscript Ethics Bylaws.

09 Authorship

JSTS follows the authorship guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Authorship credit should be based on all of the following criteria:

• 1) Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
• 2) Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
• 3) Final approval of the version to be published; AND
• 4) Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

10 Editorial and Peer Review Process

The Editor selects peer reviewers based on the recommendations of Editorial Board members or from the reviewer database maintained by the Editorial Board. The acceptance of a manuscript is determined on the basis of the reviewers??comments and recommendations.

Each reviewer makes one of the following recommendations: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject. If there is a marked discrepancy among the recommendations of the three reviewers and the associate editor, or between the opinions of the authors and the reviewers, the Editor may send the manuscript to an additional reviewer for further comments and a recommendation. A manuscript that receives a Major Revision decision in three successive rounds of review will be regarded as rejected.

Reviewed manuscripts are returned to the corresponding author with the reviewers??comments and requested revisions. The final decision on acceptance or rejection is communicated to the corresponding author by the Editorial Office. The peer review process usually takes three to four months from submission.

If a revised manuscript is not resubmitted within three months, the submission will be regarded as withdrawn. In the revised manuscript, the corresponding author must clearly indicate, point by point, the changes made in response to the reviewers??comments, and must provide acceptable reasons for not following any of the reviewers??recommendations.

11 Clearance and Copyright

Submission of a manuscript constitutes assurance that it has received proper clearance from the authors??company or institution, that it has not been copyrighted, published, or accepted for publication elsewhere, and that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere while under review by JSTS.

It is the policy of the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers (IEIE) to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes. Upon acceptance, the authors are required to complete and sign the Publication and Copyright Transfer Agreement, under which the copyright in the paper is transferred to IEIE. The authors retain all proprietary rights other than copyright, such as patent rights.

Signature: The Agreement may be signed by one author on behalf of all authors, provided that the signing author has been authorized to do so by all co-authors. Separate signatures from the other authors are not required. If the copyright is owned by an organization, an authorized representative of that organization should complete the "Organization-Owned Copyright" section instead of the Author Signature section.

Submission of the Agreement: The Editorial Office will request the signed Agreement by e-mail after acceptance. The form can also be downloaded from this page. Please return the signed form to the JSTS Editorial Office by e-mail or by mail. A scanned copy submitted by e-mail is acceptable.
